I write to you from a refugee camp here in northern Iraq. I do not like it here. Things are really getting to be frantic here in Iraq. Saddam Hussein has tightened his grip and made the entire country into a massive prison. Please show Saddam Hussein more about your democratic government is about freedom liberty and legal rights given to the people. My family is in poverty like all the others. When ever anyone tries to rebel or try to leave they are shot on the spot. I am beginning to lose all hope. I fear that we have no way of escape.
Sincerely,
Abdul
Dear Mr. Hussein,
We feel that since you are the one who holds the power in Iraq you should be the one to change Iraq to a democracy. It is unfair to the people of Iraq to deprive the people of a democracy, because they are living, breathing people they should not be treated like doormats all their lives. Besides we also feel that the elections you hold are unfair to the people since the only way they may have another leader is if you are killed.
Your leadership skills are not the best. You should let other people help you run the government so the power is divided equally. If you were to treat your people with rights and freedoms, the United Nations would allow imports and exports, and your economy would stop deteriorating and begin to grow. We think that its unwise to ban all exports and only allow imports that are essential for civilian needs.
In our system of government we have a checks and balance system. We use this system so no part of the government gets to powerful. For example, if our president chooses not to make a law and our Congress wants to, the Congress may override the president and create that law. In conclusion, we would like to add that Iraq is a good country and with the help of our advice it would change Iraq for the better, because we can not sit back and watch people being mistreated. We think that it is a violation of human rights.
Sincerely,
Tracy M.
