Cry For Yugoslavia
Tribes and clans
make up the fragile mosaic
along the Adriatic.
This dying century,
found in pools of Balkan blood,
was born in Sarajevo's streets.
The Archduke's murder
is still for too many of us
only a textbook paragraph.
Tito's fragile thread
now cut by Communism's collapse
no longer binds the nations.
The satellite feed
reveals the new Auschwitz built
to cleanse the homeland.
Ethnic scars bleed
from the criminal dagger held
in the hand of a new Hitler.
The century fades
along with epitaphs written
on graves of children.
