I enjoyed this site thoroughly. It is one of the finest websites of a school I have seen. Your building is also quite impressive and the bay view must be relaxing from that side of the building. However, I noticed the mediation program--does your sh ool have problems with violence?

I attended the Redskins' game today, where the Hub Band played their "Images of the Russian Revolution." Sitting down at the field level, I am sad to report that the band received only polite applause by some, and several boo's and taunts by others. . This reception, at least in the opinion of this musician, was not a reflection of the students performance, but in the selection of music/band director. . Certainly Mussorki, Shostakovitch and Tschesnokoff are notable composers that provide ample challenge the skills any musicians. However, this is lost on an audience, rabid with the thoughts of interceptions and beer. . But it is not the esoteric or high-brow nature of the music that had the audience outraged. No, rather it was the parading of young teenage women in the uniforms of Red Army soldiers, proudly unfurling the Red Crescent and Sickle during the performances f inale that enraged the crowd. . To be quite blunt, it was inappropriate. Not only in my opinion, but in the opinions of those sitting around me. I personally have family was one of the 24 million that perished during the Russian Revolution'. Others around me had relatives who were essen tially held captive by The Wall. . Certainly, we need to teach all sides of history, and having the students interactively participate helps drive the point home. But waving the uniforms and flags were too much. . Would the NHHS sit quietly by if Mr.Widmann decided next year to put together a program of Wagner entitled "Images of Fascism", where the flag girls were dressed in SS uniforms and crossed the fields with the Swastika (I would hope not) ? . Then why put the students through the humiliation of being booed at the a Redskins Game because of the insensitivity and thoughtlessness of the band director ? . I would employee the administration of NHHS to reconsider this issue. In my personal opinion, I was unfair to the students, and incredibly offensive to the audience to be subjected to this blithe treatment of one of history's most brutal regimes. . NORTH HIGH SUCKS! THEY GET ALL THE MONEY AND RESOURCES WHICH ISN'T FAIR TO ANYONE ELSE IN THE COUNTY. ALSO, THE NORTH END ISN'T ANY BETTER THAN ANY OTHER PART OF TOWN. THERE IS JUST AS MANY DRUG AND VIOLENCE PROBLEMS @ NORTH AS ANY OTHER SCHOOL IN THE COUNTY. 'NUFF SAID!

I was going to delete the above message, but I decided to leave it up and respond. While it is true that NHHS has a "new" building from 1992 and South High is still waiting for their renovation, North High lags the rest of the county in computer technology. We admit to having the same problems as other schools in the county, but North High does not suffer from them to any greater degree. At North, we strive to educate young people to the best of our ability. Most of our students are positive examples of the potential of our community's youth, and we are proud of them. Thanks,

Mr. Cassutto

You go NHHS! I miss all you great teachers! One day all you students will realize how awesome every single one of your teachers are, even if you hate them now. I know I am where I am today because of their continued support and eagerness to see us all grow in out own special way. Thank you NHHS teachers for being my crutch and getting me through H.S.

We think that having a picture on your web page is a really cool idea, and we like the way that when you go to some diffrent buttons pictures will come up. We think that it would be even more neat if you put a little more color on your page, that would make it even more bright and enthusiastic. We want our webpage to be just as cool as yours. My life's journey has taken me across country, landing in California for the last 25 years. I will be visiting the Hagerstown area next week, arriving 10/21. My two oldest daughters will be joining me. I can't wait to show them where I went to school. I've lost touch with any of my classmates. If you are out there, e:mail me. Would love to reconnect. It gave me a good look at what the school really is, what's going on and explains what your pricipal thinks about the school. It really looks like a really good school. the reason i went to your website is because I'm moving soon down to your area and I wanted to know what the schools were like down there. I found your website in: Eby, Judy W., 1996, Reflective Planning,Teaching, and Evaluation. Toroto: Prentice Hall, p.2 re: What environmental concerns are important in your region? As a graduate in Environmental Geography my greatest concern is globalization of the economy and the subsequent efforts to dismantle environmental protection policies in our country. Unlike the US, where env. protection is legislated, our country (in an effort to limit costly and time consuming litigation)uses a more pragmatic approach where Ministerial Policy dictates. Unfortunately with a change in governments at both the provincial and national level every four years, policies tend to change according to the paradigm that prevails. Since provincial and national gov. views may clash (e.g. conservative vs. liberal - read: republican vs. democrat)there always exists opposing views. At present, in Ontario, a conservative party is in power who's mandate is to slash and burn social programs (Education, Health Care, and the Environment) in an effort to cut the deficit (numbers on paper controlled by big business). There is too much to cover, so I will stick with the environment. Our Ministry of Natural Resources(MNR - Provincial) funding has been so drastically cut that it is now affectionately referred to as the Ministry of No Return. The Ministry of Energy and Environment (MOEE - Federal) has experienced the same fate. Although they may still have legislative authority, they simply do not have the financial resources to enforce existing environmental protection laws. Case in point: Illegal dumping of garbage into public waters by individuals on a native reserve. The MOEE (Federal) says it is a MNR issue (Provincial). The MNR says it is an MOEE issue. The MOEE responds by saying it is a municipal issue, the municipality responds by saying it is a native issue (Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development - Federal). The DIAND responds by saying it is an internal affair that should be regulated by the natives themselves. The communitarian nature of native society frowns upon criminal prosecution. Result - No Action. Please note that I am not ethnocentric, this is merely a case in point. At present there is in progress a project that is called "Lands for LIfe." Initiated by the provincial conservative gov., it is merely a guise to open protected crown lands (public) to resource extraction in an effort to remain globally competitive. The most disturbing aspect of the proposed legislation is that environmental regulation and control is to be supervised by the corporate entities that will benefit from these plans. The fox is about to be inserted into the chicken coop. Summary: - Globalization of markets. - Reduction in government spending / social programs / control (all under the guise of deficit reduction at the urging of big business) - Insufficient funds to effectively carry out policing duties. - Due to lack of funds, the government is compelled to reliquish environmental control to corporate entities. Please note: The health of a society and its economy is directly dependent upon the health and state of its environment - not its economy! Sincerely, Marc Vermander, North Bay, Ontario, Canada

While I did not graduate from North Hagerstown High because my family moved to Arlington VA, I would like to say hello to all those old friends from the class of 1963. I was a member of the freshmen class, and ended up graduating from Yorktown High School in Arlington, VA. While many of lifes experiences have changed my outlook on things, I still sleep through Acient History only now it is in my recliner while watching the discovery channel. Married twice, the second time is still great. I have one daughter, three sons, and one grandchild. Did get in touch with Andy Goller via the internet and his sister Janet who still lives in Hagerstown. He is a big deal entrepenuer in California. What ever happened to my first love...Vicki Long? Anybody Know? Oh well I guess I should cut this short for now. Again Hello to all my old friends from Hagerstown. Mike Gardner, Andy Goller, Dick Cochran, etc.etc.etc. Vic

My job will allow me to meet many of the parents and students of the community and from the looks of your homepage, it is going to be a very good summer!

You folks have done a remarkable job. The web site is great and I learned some points of history I hadn't been aware of. For instance, I never knew (or maybe I just don't remember knowing) that Hagerstown and Frederick were held for ransom by the confe deracy. I didn't remember that there was a tea party in Charlestown. The history, maps, tourist stuff is all top-notch. keep it up! It makes me glad to be a Hagerstonian and a grad from NHHS.

Wow! This website with all its links was really interesting. I loved the map project. Geography is really interesting. The staff page was great and so was your Net-Day. I teach at George Perry Adult Learning Centre in Sarnia. With all the government cuts of funding, we have to find innovative ways to be in the public's "face" in order to attract interest and funding from other sources. Sarnia is a small city, too, with about 50,000 population and unfortunately a high unemployment rate close to 15%. We need adult education, but the provincial government has already cut us once by reducing the grant for "over 21" students by 62%. More cuts to come. Will we survive? Any suggestions? On a more positive note, your pages have given me some good ideas to use for a web-page on the net. Thanks. We'll drop in again some time. Bye! Paul

I saw a link to your NHHS Homepage on the Ednet list--Educational Possibilities of the Internet about a year ago. George Cassutto was, (is?), a member of that list. This new medium of hypertext and internet is so powerful, and profound in its implications. I am continually amazed. I was cleaning up my 'ednet' file on my web page when I came across your NHHS link again. I am glad I did. Please visit my page if you want to read about an idea that would address many of the seemingly intractable problems of our society today. The Tragedy of the Commons resolved. We can integrate capitalism and communism and achieve the best of both worlds. It's hard to think what the best of both worlds could be when both capitalism and communism as we know them are so far from ideal. The 'gaia brain' theory, as I call it, would strike a new balance between individual and community interests. It would give us all a means for communicating to society about the direction we would like to go as a society. What kind of society do we want? Gaia brain gives us the tools for sculpting society to bring it into accord with our expressed wishes. I would be delighted to hear what you think about this idea, or any other that you see on my page. Many Thanks!

Hi, I attended NHHS in the early 70's. Due to my father being in the military, I left Hagerstown after my freshman year (1969) upon his return from Vietnam. Returned again for what was to be the last time before leaving for Japan in 1970. I joined the Army myself in 1975 and remained so for the following 7 years. After my discharged I went to work for the Federal Gov't of which I am still a part of. I have been away from the area for about 20 years and now that my husband has retired from the militar y, we have made VA our home. What time I had at NHHS, I enjoyed. Don't remember specific details except that each reunion time that comes around, I have always been included in the class of 1973. Unfortunately, I was never close enough to beable to participate. Perhaps one day, I may make it yet. This is the closet I have been thus far in my life. I remember one young lady to this date, her name is Winky McGowan. When I had the opportunity to return to Hagerstown for a visit, I ran into her once at the Boonsboro carnival. She always remembered my name. We use to spend the night at each other's house. If you're out there Winky...Hello!! I just happened to stumble across this homepage for NHHS. It's bookmarked now. Thanks for letting me ramble!! Regards Linda

Mr. C I'm terrible at this whole internet thing. Can you tell the Bible Club that I hear things are going well. I'm proud of them and am glad to see it's growth since I tried to lead it a while back. Stick with it. I know that 8:00 comes early but in the long run it's worth it. In HIS service. Gwendolyn

As a 1987 graduate, I just wanted to say great job. The 4 years I spent at NHHS were great, especially in the awesome HUB Marching Band...it seems that band and Mr. Kunkle was my life (but don't tell him I haven't picked up by trombone since I graduated.) I received my Bachelors of Art from UMBC in 1991, and my Masters of Public Administration from the University of Baltimore in 1993. I now work at the National Institutes of Health in Rockville, MD. If anyone out there remembers me and the great class of 1987, email me! Take care and good luck.

In addition to the previous comments I made about your website yesterday, I forgot to ask you students what it is like to have Albert Einstein as a teacher. You are all so humble. I had no idea that he was a faculty member. I suspect he is rather boring but it's great to have him around. You should publicize his presence more or maybe he has requested a low-profile.

I have looked at many school websites but yours is outstanding. You should be very proud. I saw that one of your students and faculty recently received an award related to technology. (I went back to get the specifics and it isn't there today.) Anyway, congratulations. I'm sure you know who I'm referring to. One question---the Washington Co. Board of Education is developing a website. They have a list of schools in the district and several are underlined as links. The best one, however, is not. (That's this one!) Shouldn't your impressive website be linked in their website? The album is a nice thought and I'm pleased that you gave credit to some people who are often the workers and get little thanks. I know they appreciated your kindness. Keep up the good work!

I'm sorry to say this, but I found you web site to be just "too busy" for my eyes. Your map and text were too much to see, added with your bulleting board message on the bottom, really got to me.
