Garrett County contains many different attractions. One of the largest is Deep Creek Lake. Its the largest fresh water lake in Maryland, 12 miles long and with 65 miles of shoreline. Many people make Deep Creek a second home. It is a great place for boating, fishing, water skiing, and swimming. There are also 2 championship gulf courses found near the lake. Another great recreational attraction is Wisp Ski Resort. Wisp has several runs for beginners to experts. A total of 12 miles in all. They also have a half pipe for snow boarders.
Garrett County also offers many historical attractions. The Casselman River Bridge was built in 1813 and was once one of the longest of its type in the U.S. Many of the towns in Garrett County offer a number of historical sits open to the public. The Queen Anne style B&O Railroad Station in Oakland was built in 1884.
Garrett County has more than 70,000 acres of State Forests. They offer good hunting and fishing. Swallow Falls State Park has three waterfalls. Muddy Creek Falls, which is the largest in the state, Swallow Falls, and tranquil Tolliver Falls. There are also trails open to mountain biking, horse back riding and hiking that offers beautiful scenic mountains.
