It was an important day for the Continental Congress. After long delays by Maryland , The Articles of Confederation were finally ratified. After seventeen months of debate in March. The Articles are the first attempt at establishing a national government in America. Four years ago on November 15, the articles were first proposed to the colonies. The Articles of Confederation give the new independent United States of America their an important word: their "sovereignty," which means they can act as independent nations, but they can also join together as one nation to deal with security issues. The main points of the article are as follows -Each state is free and is allowed to rule itself, and establishes any power that the federal government has not already reserved. -The Articles help against enemies of our new nation. -Ensures thate the citizens of one state are to be treated as a citizen of any state they are visiting. -Free travel between states. |
