II. list and describe several key supreme court cases to illustrate the concept of judicial review.
III. become familiar with current events and how such events relate to the
judicial branch of government.
Warm Up Activity (Anticipatory Set):
Main Activity (Instructional Input):
A) Distribute the vocabulary worksheet on the Judicial Branch.
B) Have students form partner pairs and use their textbook, encyclopedia, or Internet to define terms.
C) Allow students to use their definitions to complete the judicial Branch Vocabulary Matching Worksheet.
Check For Understanding: Review papers orally while students check their work.
Wrap-Up Activity (Closure): Judicial branch In the News
A) Record a national network news broadcast. Bring it in to class to show to students. If it contains concepts that relate to the Judicial Branch, have students watch for these ideas.
B) Distribute the Build-A-Worksheet note-taking guide. Have the students take notes as they watch. Be sure to stop the video and discuss key points.
C) Students must create a headline for each major story and record one or two
key details as they watch.
D) Have students present their answers after viewing the video.
Evaluation: The lesson will be evaluated by:
I. the accuracy of student's written responses;
II. student's scores on future tests and quizzes.
